The sign of the Virgin is that of Virgo. It is governed by the second ray of education.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of reason, expression and dexterity. It is said, and with considerable truth, that love is blind, for were one to see faults in the beloved one the master passion never would find expression. Therefore the children of Virgo who are governed so much by intellect are not sympathetic, but inclined to be cynical, critical and skeptical of anything that is not scientifically demonstrable to the reason and senses.

The sign of Virgo is not well understood. Some authorities seem to believe that Vulcan, a planet that exists near the Sun, rules Virgo. The nature of this sign are usually moral, honest and well-liked individuals. They have exceptional integrity which is one of the facets of their nature, causing people to gravitate to them. These persons are impersonal rather than loving. They are inclined toward the monastic orders, or to a life of celibacy in the advanced type.
It is seldom that Virgo individuals associate closely with things. Their family is supreme to them. Outside of these close relationships these natives regard others with some degree of criticism and reserve. They are apt to "strain at gnats and swallow camels." They are fastidious. The mentality is fast-working, yet often becomes narrowed and grooved.
