The Christ Statue

Statue Profile

Flower A. Newhouse on the meaning of the Christ statue.

The larger than life wood-carved statue representing the Living Christ is the centerpiece of the altar of the Church of the Holy Quest at Questhaven. It was created in 1959 by German wood sculptor, Otto Flath, under the direction of the Reverend Flower A. Newhouse.

During the construction of the Church of the Holy Quest, the Reverend Flower A. Newhouse visualized a large wooden statue on the altar representing the Christ—smiling, with arms stretched forth in loving welcome.

The moment it was placed on the altar, the statue became a symbol of humanity's great need for the Living Christ today. In bringing forth the reality of Christ's Presence, the statue seemed to imbue the very purpose of the Christward Ministry at Questhaven, which in part is to inspire others to become living expressions of Christ's Presence and Light in the world.

Flower described that The most important of Questhaven's missions is its radiation of God Light.
