Foreword

You shall be my watchmen on earth, and since you must testify to truth, see to it that truth channels you so that you can verify that to which you testify. (pg. v)

About the Masters

Masters enter individually into the earth's atmosphere whenever they are sent on missions or are attracted by someone's need or worthiness. (pg. 2)

The appearance of the masters has more beauty than anything but the angels. They are so beautiful, but as their individuality shines through, you lose your awe. Looking at completeness, not self-consciousness, there is no degree of vanity in them. It is enough to just sit in their presence to feel their completeness and holiness. (pg. 3)

What the Masters say about Questhaven

There shall always be the atmosphere of peacefulness. From this atmosphere good works shall be given birth. Those who come to these God-drenched acres must find the Divine Presence and Divine reminder for their own renewing and strengthening. (pg. 22)

Higher States of Consciousness

The lightening of consciousness can only take place at the primal or the summa level. Much preparation, purification and spiritual expectancy is needful to reach these higher states. (pg. 23)

Let your higher nature rule and lead. It is the qualification of integrity which makes the disciple worthy to break the barriers, to penetrate into the higher frequencies of Light. (pg. 24)

There needs to be in all disciples and pupils a centeredness. Out of this centeredness comes relaxation, awareness, composure and relatedness to Deity. In all of your endeavoring strive for this important achievement–to be centered. (pg. 24)

This centeredness brings the sevenfold nature of man into ennoblement of being, realization and progress. (pg. 25)

An aspirant possesses integrity only when he lives, thinks, feels, desires and serves from centeredness in the Kingdom. (pg. 25)

May your feet be strengthened by the wings of understanding. May your hands be busy in their activities for Light. May your heart beat with more love for the whole of mankind. And may your heads teach you how to live in the clear, the kingdom from which we come. (pg. 27)

Qualifications for Discipleship

Keep yourself fed by the Light from the center. Nothing is so important as your steadfastness to this purpose. (pg. 31)

Developments may be acquired, but character has to be achieved. (pg. 32)

Three methods for the lifting of the errant in coming to discipleship can be summarized as giving of love, keeping of silence, and outflow of faith. (pg. 32)

Pliability, obedience and adventuresomeness we deem as highly important traits. Guard and keep active these qualities always. (pg. 33)

Attitudes of Discipleship

Make it your life cause to recall the Hierarchy's need for you as frequently as you are able each day. (pg. 39)

Do more to prove your brotherhood and sisterhood to the whole. (pg. 39)

Fight your battles with the fire of zeal and come to conquest! (pg. 41)

Find your way through reverence to polarity, to willing change, for it is better that you alter your temperament than claim illumination. The latter can only be supported by integrity and the strength that grows out of unceasing conquest of the lower self. (pg. 55)

Inner Perception

Higher unfoldment results from the right conditioning of man's whole nature for the reception of spiritual light. (pg. 57)

Until integrity expresses itself in being and until there is readiness on the part of the recipient, he will be wholly unable to be imprinted by higher frequencies. (pg. 57)

The art of meditation not only grants with time and practice a government of the mind, but it allows for the tuning of the entire instrument. (pg. 58)

When we speak of finer attunement there is implied amalgamation of purposeful character, spiritual knowledge and highest wise use of methods gleaned. (pg. 59)

Faith

Two qualities that are prerequisite to advanced achievement are those of wielded faith and continual application. (pg. 63)

Because faith is so primary that it forms the background of your spiritual life, you are in danger of supposing you possess faith. (pg. 63)

Faith in God is the theme of conscious evolution. Note how men fail when primarily they have faith in man. (pg. 63)

It is not far-fetched to say that all of your imperfect, uncomfortable, unhappy and self-bound states are do to lack of faith in God–the One supplier of knowledge, fortitude, conquest and transcendence for every limitation. (pg. 64)

Be adventurers upon the seas of faith. (pg. 64)

In the Hierarchy we ask not only "How good is he?" but "How faith-filled is he?" (pg. 64)

Healing

Allow no man, woman or influence to violate the sacred sanctity of your individuality. (pg. 67)

The first ingredient that aerates your house of mind–the element most needful to your mind's very existence–is peace. (pg.68)

The most essential quality that is necessary in your dimension is that of the surrender of your will to God, however God would use, change, heal or help you. (pg. 68)

Each of you needs to be a vessel for the healing of the world. (pg. 69)

Magnetic forces deal with the physical form and its reflecting body–the etheric vehicle and the astral form… Were it not for the magnetic forces pouring into the aura from the spiritual nature of the sun, man would be well, strong and efficient for a very limited period. (pg. 69)

The atomic forces move in and around man's private sea from the great Lords of Creation as the pebbles of the ocean stir when churned by the powerful waves of the ocean. (pg. 70)

Atomic energy has its greatest affinity for the processes and workings of the mental body… To better influence the revitalizing of one's own atomic being, pure and expanded consciousness is required. (pg. 71)

The electric powers deal with the talents and the capacities of the soul…The qualities in man that correspond to these electrical properties of the higher dimension are: sincerity, sympathy, unselfish love, and the ideal wish for perfection. (pg. 71)

Above the electric energies, and corresponding with the world of adonai, are the dynamus forces. These are the qualities, the energies that contain the pure and abiding life of Creative Divinity. (pg. 72)

The Light of the Spirit can penetrate, cleanse and reawaken the cellular bodies that form your several vehicles and you must learn to do this work. (pg. 74)

In the physical body the atoms making up this outermost vehicle are widely spaced in contrast to all the other vehicles above it. This spaciousness allows Light and the influence from the other vehicles to enter the physical plane of manifestation. (pg. 75)

When you control yourself, all your feelings and love of life–the experience, the awesome, never-ending adventure of it–the atomic lives forming your various vehicles will express that constructive wonder through their special sensitivity to higher energies. (pg. 76)

Meditation

Do not begin meditations without becoming conscious of the fact that within you are powers which can reach great distances to touch and bring into availability energies, memories, ideals or archetypes important for your attention. (pg. 77)

It is through the highest reach that you touch the harmony and peace of the Inner Worlds. (pg. 77)

From the soles of your feet to the crown of your head, you are Light-governed and kept so by your remembrance of the world of eternity around you. (pg.80)

Awaken to peace. Be bathed in its Light. Awaken to the Light of higher God consciousness and receive that Light, re-embodied with its steadiness and its own qualities, and remember to always keep this body in that Light. (pg. 80)

The atoms are affected by three things: will, concise directions, and love. (pg. 80)

World Treatment

Pour out your love, your goodwill and an ardent wish for the improvement, the unfoldment and the happiness of these global brothers. (pg. 82)

Open your vigil of prayer with worship of the Christ. Greet him as the Hierarch of all spiritual efforts and attainment. (pg. 82)

Concentrate upon the Christ Spirit coming into the great body of mankind. Entertain the thought of this mass body until it becomes dear to you and intensely important. You will work by continents, seeing the peoples of earth as receptive to this Christ Spirit. (pg. 83)

Even as it is necessary for religions to lose their secular boundaries, so is it essential that the governments of the world cease their rigid nationalism, to enter a new state of true fellowship based upon spiritual brotherhood. (pg. 83)

Strive once again to love this earth and its population with such depth that crime, war, disease, suffering and want are felt by your soul. Then only, because of your sympathy and your realization, are you able to call down the victorious Christ Spirit, that it may enter the various places and persons on earth where these destructives are most prevalent. (pg. 83)

Should you do your work fully and from the right or highest level of your soul's aspiration, you will have the mystic experience that the masters abidingly know, of being a conscious and very necessary part of humanity's growth and blessing. (pg. 84)

The Inner Side of Easter

Because Easter has such importance, not only to you as souls, but in relation to the progress of the planet, we wish you to know something of the inner side of this high event. (pg. 87)

The misted billows of devotion during Lent transfuse the atmosphere of the New Jerusalem with beautiful lavender hues. (pg. 87)

The city four-square, called New Jerusalem, is wholly Christian. This is the seat of the Lord Emmanuel's reign. Other faiths are just as welcome as those who belong to the way of the Christ in this place. However, every great religion has its city. The Hebrew faith is strengthened from its center from Inner Worlds called Zion. (pg. 89)

Christmas Preparation

As this season approaches in your dimension, notice is broadcast throughout our world from your festival of Thanksgiving onward for what we call the brightening. (pg. 93)

This is the Christ Spirit descending into this region and then from the fervent hearts of worshipers everywhere rose-colored waves arise like incense toward the Christ. (pg. 94)

The Lord Christ

There were miracles in great numbers before Jesus began his public ministry. He was able from infancy to cast out devils by the purity of his gaze. Where ever he was taken or whatever home he entered, guided by his own inner guidance, his unusualness, preeminent nobility, valor and strength of manhood were all recognized. (pg. 96)

When Jesus left this plane through his tumultuous ordeal of crucifixion, it also took place with Mary at the same time in her own feminine way. Her successful passing of this ordeal made her a master. Catholics do well to honor her. (pg. 98)

It is expedient when you attune yourselves to reality that you think of our Lord Christ in a way that is true and has access to his Presence. (pg. 99)

The Lord Emmanuel spends a portion of each day in Shamballa. In these courts of learning he deals directly with the teaching of the adepts and those initiate pupils who are called to this place for enlightening. (pg. 99)

We consider it of manifest importance that you gain in control and in abiding consecration in such a way that your thoughts and your practices can worthily add joy to this unparalleled one who is responsible for the purpose behind your life. (pg. 101)

The Significance of the Sun

No wonder that you love the Father Light, for through the sun moves that power which is the nearest approach which can be expressed in conceptual terms to God. The Mother Light is always hidden. It shines silently and steadily from the inner spheres and it illumines the consciousness of people. The Father Light blesses your physical instruments. It activates you etherically. On the astral planes, the light of the sun is also warm and pleasant. On the mental plane, that light becomes more reserved, less warm, it is intensified in its effect upon the atomic makeup of intelligences. And from the causal level onward and upward, the Father Light becomes passive while the Mother Light is predominant. (pg. 103)

On the causal level all the suns of God have their gathered light blended. For that reason, light should have for conscious aspirants of the Lord's Way a very sacred and infilling meaning. (pg. 103)

In this sphere of the sun, the Light of God is actually the Light that the Logos Osiris wields through His direct attunement with the Pristine God. For that reason we urge you to walk in Light, to climb to your central heart, the alter of your being where the sunlight of the Solar Logos continually abides. (pg. 104)

Walk in the light of your fires and the sparks which ye have kindled. (pg. 104)

The Four Elements

Fire is considered the most pure and godly element. Your life originated in the Divine fiery substance of the one called God. (pg. 107)

Daily, remember to invite life that is pure flame and is all-consuming of the unreal, to enter and be fully active within you. (pg. 107)

The air kingdom originates within the great ensouling wisdom of Deity. It is requisite that you consider air as a very sacred instrument since it carries frequencies to you from the Solar Logo and the wavelengths from the regions of Godhood. (pg. 109)

The air kingdom makes one demand: that man realizes thanksgiving for the gift of wisdom, as well as for the continuation of individual existence. (pg. 110)

Recall frequently that with every intake of breath you are breathing in God's wisdom, God's permeation and God's quickening into the very center of your existence. (pg. 110)

The water kingdom, which is emblematic of the emotions, has its fount in the Spirit of the Supreme and Divine Will. (pg. 110)

Whenever you look upon water or receive it, know that through its vital charging and its highly magnetic cleansing properties, you too may know from and through it, release, refreshment, purification and delight. (pg. 112)

Let us consider the earth and the part it plays in radiating the life element completely through every vehicle to the very physical vestment itself. (pg. 112)

About Authors

The life and writings of Flower A. Newhouse are those of a Christian mystic, and her insights into the inner realms of life provide us with a path to wholeness that she called "Living the Life." These teachings are not doctrine, but a practical guide to the direct, immediate experience of God. Flower's mission was also to reawaken humanity to the reality of angels, a work she began with her first book in 1937, and added to in many published writings and in recorded lectures.

Dr. Stephen Isaac was a teacher, counselor, and consultant in various public schools, universities, and private industries. Dr. Isaac maintained a life-long interest in Questhaven Retreat, and Flower A. Newhouse, whom he met when he was ten years old. Ordained a minister in this work in 1952, he served as a regular speaker and as its director.

Phyllis Isaac resides on the grounds at Questhaven and has known Flower A. Newhouse since she was a child. She has been a life long student of her work and serves the Retreat as a minister, speaker, workshop coordinator, editor, and counselor.
